My Impressions of the Dell XPS 17
Experience after One Month: Honestly speaking, my overall experience with this laptop leaves a lot to be desired. It’s one of the most expensive machines I’ve owned, and its performance hasn’t justified the cost for me.
Battery Life: The battery life is unimpressive. It doesn’t last longer than a couple of hours, which is simply insufficient for any substantial work or travel.
The Touch Screen:
Functionality: The touch screen has a mind of its own! It moves and operates without my input – not exactly what you want from a laptop.
The Camera Quality:
Poor Performance: The camera quality is subpar at best. In an era where video communication is so crucial, this was undeniably disappointing.
Troublesome Onset
A Rocky Start: When I first opened up this laptop, it started booting up on its own without me pressing the power button – not exactly an encouraging sign!
Frustrating Issues After Setup
After overcoming initial hiccups and setting it up successfully, Windows updates sent everything haywire. The screen began flashing uncontrollably; I could hardly open apps or browse online!
Durability Concerns
I was frustrated to find that an external adapter broke easily on such an expensive machine. This issue raised concerns about its durability and lifespan.
On a more positive note:
Adequate for Light Tasks
This laptop generally sufficed for light work tasks but could be pushed to its limits with heavier loads.
Praiseworthy Customer Service
Despite all these issues, I must commend Dell’s customer service – they were helpful in troubleshooting some problems. However, good customer service can only make up so much for poor product quality.
In conclusion, while there are some redeeming features – decent speakers, solid aesthetics – the Dell XPS 17 isn’t worth its hefty price tag in my opinion. My advice? Save your money until these issues are addressed by Dell.
My Thoughts On Dell XPS 15 After 1 Month Of Use
My Initial Impressions
After a solid month of using the Dell XPS 15, I can safely say that this laptop serves its purpose for my needs. Right off the bat, I was impressed by the premium feel it has. The metal casing looked great and added to the solid built of the device.
Display Quality
The screen on this device is simply breathtaking with slim bezels. The large, bright display seems to extend way beyond its actual size due to those thin borders, providing me with plenty of real estate for my projects. Unfortunately, I did encounter a little hiccup when realizing that despite Amazon’s product description mentioning a 4K resolution touch screen, what I received was a 1920×1200 FHD+ non-touch version.
Performance & Battery Life
Performance-wise, I have few complaints. This laptop handles all my tasks well – from browsing and Microsoft Office tasks to gaming or using heavy applications like CAD for 3D work or editing videos – without overheating too much. Battery life did vary quite noticeably depending on what I was doing and the brightness levels but overall, it wasn’t too bad.
The Keyboard & Trackpad Experience
The keyboard feels good and the trackpad is huge, making them both easy and natural to use; it’s as comfortable as my old Surface laptops in this regard. However, shortly after my service coverage lapsed, left and right mouse-clicks on the touch pad failed completely which forced me to get a Bluetooth Mouse as a workaround.
The Lacking Features & Surprises
The XPS 15 does have some faults like not featuring any built-in CD/DVD drive which made me buy an external one but surprisingly it didn’t have enough power to even run that! Additionally, both USB ports are USB-C types only so when required you’ll have to use an included dongle for connecting your USB-A peripherals or HDMI devices which can be frustrating at times.
Pricing & Final Thoughts
Surely it comes at a pricey range,, but considering its performance capabilities especially in film work notwithstanding some limitations which are mostly workable-around issues makes it worth considering. Lastly on sound quality; while they were okay for general use any high bass music would cause an annoying buzz forcing me towards headphones or external speakers.
Personally? Despite these quirks and shortcomings here and there I think this is still one of those computers that’s worth investing in.. It doesn’t take away from what’s otherwise been a solid experience so far – plus going from an old Dell laptop from 2012… let’s just say this feels like one hell of an upgrade!
