I recently purchased the Dell Inspiron 15 3525 Ryzen 7 and I’ve been using it for about a month now. Contrary to the many negative reviews I’ve come across, my personal experience with this model has been great so far. Being a passionate gamer for more than three decades, both on console and PC, I feel like I’ve got a pretty decent handle on what to look for in a gaming machine.
The system delivered as expected, with a core i7 10700F processor, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM at @2933Mhz and an OEM Nvidia GTX 1660 TI graphics card. It also came with a Dell 1 TB NVME SSD PCI-E Gen 3 without DRAM but offset with HMB technology, standard case fan and cpu cooler/fan, as well as a proprietary power supply.
Performance Analysis
In terms of performance, this rig is no slouch. The GT5000 delivers hands down! However, it’s important to understand that this GPU was designed for FHD or 1080p gaming on high/ultra settings. If you enable V-sync you can get a solid 60 FPS. Without it, expect in the high 110 or 120s FPS range for most games.
After running several demanding games like Gears of War 4 and Witcher 3 on ultra setting at solid frame rates, I can confirm that this PC definitely outperforms most consoles when used correctly.
Cooling & Upgradeability
Now let’s address the concerns regarding cooling and upgradability – these seem to be sticking points in some reviews. Yes, the choice of an 80mm over a larger fan wasn’t wise but it still does the job adequately enough.
Can you upgrade components? Definitely! You can upgrade anything from processor to memory but if you want to upgrade its power supply or transfer internals into another case later on – You’ll need to get your hands dirty with some motherboard changes due to its proprietary nature.
Few Gripes & Tips
A few bugs have crept up during my usage though – specifically in Alienware Control Panel software. Some mouse settings changes cause conflicts there so Dell could do well by squashing those bugs pronto!
