I am not going to lie, I was a bit disappointed with the price fluctuation on Amazon. I bought my Dell G15 Intel i7 for roughly $1,200 and saw it priced at $1000 a few days after. Frustrating, right? But let’s get over to the actual product.
Unboxing and First Impressions
The laptop arrived promptly in typical Amazon fashion. It came in an Amazon box which contained a smaller Dell box holding the laptop. There was a small rip on the Dell box but luckily, my new gear appeared undamaged.
The design felt robust, if not premium – just as you’d expect from Dell’s “affordable” gaming laptop line. The build quality is solid – plastic fused with some metal here and there. The keyboard felt comfortable to type on and screen was nice enough but nothing extraordinary.
Performance-wise
Now, here’s where things get interesting. Over about a month of using it for both work and play (about 5 nights per week), this machine performed remarkably well; very fast, handling games like World of Warcraft effortlessly with fantastic graphics detail.
It truly is a beast: downloads games way faster than my Xbox could ever manage! However, it seemed there may have been an issue with the SSD as during an update one evening, the laptop failed to boot up again.
After 2-4 hours of troubleshooting through Dell’s website and customer service (which were generally helpful), they concluded that I had received a defective SSD. They sent me a replacement which I installed myself, albeit begrudgingly considering how much this laptop cost me initially!

Setting up was relatively easy and straightforward while Windows11 has been incredibly fast and beautiful on this hardware – Quite refreshing from Windows7 or Windows10 if you ask me.
Oh! And did I mention this beauty comes with full keyboard?. Quite rare for laptops in this price range!
In summary though,This little unit has made quite an impression.. Although there were minor hiccups along the way especially concerning price changes after purchase as well as thermal issues when under intense usage causing high CPU temps; overall,the G15 has served well both for work requirements as well as personal entertainment needs.

My Initial Thoughts
I’m not one to normally write reviews, and I also don’t make a habit of splurging on expensive computers. But, after spending over $2,000 on the Dell XPS 17, I felt compelled to share my experience. In all honesty, this laptop is the worst computer I’ve ever owned and easily the worst purchase I’ve made in a long time.
Battery Life & Touchscreen
The battery life is virtually non-existent. The touchscreen has a mind of its own, moving around without any input from me – quite a frustrating experience when you’re trying to get work done.
Visuals & Hardware Issues
Now let’s talk about the camera… it’s terrible. My daughter loved this laptop at first sight but was quickly disappointed by recurring ‘Ram Failed’ messages on her screen no sooner than she’d started using it. Even after charging it several times and enduring these unwanted screen pop-ups, our woes didn’t end there – the battery failed to hold charge too! We had no option but to return it within the first 30 days.
Motherboard Defect & Support
Despite being brand new, my laptop came with a defective motherboard so serious that it wouldn’t even turn on. Shocker! Right? It cost me not only money but also time reaching out to Dell’s warranty support for assistance which admittedly was superb.
The Amazon Buying Experience
Purchasing this laptop from Amazon came with its own set of challenges too. The shipment arrived in damaged packaging and upon opening it up, had further unpleasant surprises waiting for me inside—it booted up instantly without me even pressing the power button! Continuing with setup only led to more complications; Windows updates caused everything to go haywire – flashing screens which wouldn’t allow me to open any apps or even restart!

Starting off bright – there was no place for me as an old-school mouse user except via an external adapter that broke soon after maiden use. For someone who’s been a computer professional for decades like myself and uses computers heavily for video editing and gaming, performance aspects were crucially important—I expected way better!
Limited RAM & Disk Space
RAM space was skimpy at best and hard disk space? Even skimpier! The keyboard felt flat with very little tactile feedback—an absolute drawback for someone who values typing comfort over anything else while working.
However let’s be fair here: when I did manage to get past these experiences (and upgrade RAM) – boy does this machine handle video editing well! Loved gaming on it as well albeit being more of a simulation games fan myself rather than FPS.
The sound quality is quite good thanks mostly due to being located right beside the keyboard—great placement if you ask me!

In conclusion: while customer service excelled in every interaction I had with them—the quality control standards seem woefully lacking here. Given my tough experience purchasing from third-party sellers—I’m inclined towards buying laptops straight from manufacturers going forward despite how much I spent shopping at Amazon over years.
